MANILA, Philippines — Filipino idol girl group MNL48, an international sister group of Japan's AKB48, announced it would be ceasing all activities by the end of the month.

The P-pop act's management company P.O.S. Inc. posted on MNL48's Facebook page a statement confirming the group's disbandment following discussions with relevant parties.

While it noted the support from members, fans, and staff, the company "carefully considered the sustainability of the management structure, the future operating environment, and the various conditions necessary to continue supporting the group in a stable manner" before deciding to end group activities.

"We have done our utmost to carry MNL48 forward in the best possible way," P.O.S. Inc. said. "We deeply apologize for not being able to fully meet everyone's expectations in the end."

The newly-released music video for the group's "Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie 2026" on YouTube will be its final output, which the company said "contains gratitude toward all the fans" and "the heartfelt feelings of the members."

P.O.S. Inc. reiterated its gratitude to fans, all the girls who joined the group, and every individual that played a role in MNL48's eight-year career.

"We sincerely apologize for the sudden nature of this announcement and for arriving at this difficult decision," the statement ended. "We deeply express our heartfelt gratitude once again for all the love and support you have given to MNL48 over the years."

MNL48 was founded in 2018 as the fourth international sister group of AKB48 after groups in Indonesia, China, and Thailand, although the Filipino act was the only one to debut with exactly 48 members in its first generation.

The group rose to fame making Filipino versions of AKB48's songs and was considered a key factor in the rise of P-pop group acts alongside SB19, BINI, BGYO, Alamat, and 4th Impact.

Notable members across three generations include Rans Rifol, Gabb Skribikin, Sela Guia, and Jelay Pilones.
