History beckons as PMI stages biggest boxing event in Bohol

CEBU, Philippines — A historic moment awaits the Bol-anons as PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions stages the biggest boxing event ever on their shores.

One world title eliminator and three regional championships will be featured in the surefire blockbuster “Kumong Bol-anon XXVI” set for September 12 at the Bohol Wisdom School (BWS) Gymnasium in Tagbilaran City.

In the main event of the slam-bang show involving four nations, Bohol’s pride Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob (18-1, 7KOs) is expected to figure in a grudge rematch with former two-time world champion Sivenathi “Special One” Nontshinga (14-2, 11KOs) of South Africa in a 12-round International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight elimination bout.

PMI Boxing CEO Atty. Floriezyl Echavez Podot said no less than IBF President Daryl Peoples will be coming over to Bohol to personally supervise what could be the country’s biggest fight card this year.

The winner of Suganob-Nontshinga II will earn a mandatory shot at reigning IBF light flyweight champion Thanongsak Simsri (40-1, 35KOs) of Thailand.

“I hope the Boholanos will come out in full force and support our hometown pride (Suganob) in his bid to earn another world title shot,” said Podot.

Before the Suganob-Nontshinga duel, one-time world title challenger Reymart “Cebuano Assassin”

Tagacanao (13-1, 11KOs) of Carcar City will slug it out with China’s Chinlin Kuwang (5-1, 2KOs) for the IBF Asia junior bantamweight belt.

The undefeated Leonard “The Dreamer” Pores III (11-0, 7KOs) of Claveria, Misamis Oriental will also see action against Indonesia’s Andika Fredrikson “D’ Golden Boy” Ha’e (21-3-2, 11KOs) for the IBF Pan Pacific flyweight crown.

The other championship bout pits another undefeated PMI fighter Datu Adam (7-0, 5KOs) of Camiguin against Oky Akbar (12-4, 5KOs) of Indonesia for the IBF Asia junior featherweight strap. — (FREEMAN)
