Sarah Discaya’s arrest warrant coming, says Marcos

Jean Mangaluz - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — Controversial contractor Sarah Discaya is set to get her arrest warrant “this week,” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Tuesday, December 9.

Discaya is one of the central figures in the flood control mess, being one of the top-earning contractors in the government who cornered billions of pesos worth of projects. Discaya herself has admitted to being part of a kickback scheme, although her testimonies have been criticized for being incomplete and inconsistent.

In a video report, Marcos said that several officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways have already indicated that they will surrender to authorities, as they face cases for substandard or ghost flood control projects in Davao Occidental.

“Inaasahan na rin nating lalabas ang warrant of arrest na ni Sara Discaya itong linggong ito at hindi na rin magtatagal ang pag-aresto sa kanya,” Marcos said in the video.

(We expect that Sara Discaya’s warrant of arrest will come out this week and she will be arrested.)

Marcos said that the flood control probes will continue, vowing accountability over the systemic corruption in government.

The president has been releasing a series of reports detailing his administration’s actions to address the corruption he initially pointed to during his State of the Nation Address.

As accusations began to fly around, Marcos himself was not spared, with former lawmaker Zaldy Co accusing the president of a P100-billion corruption scheme—a claim that the Palace has repeatedly dismissed.

With billions of pesos suspected of being stolen, the Marcos administration suffers declining public trust as public clamor for accountability continues.
