MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang rejected claims that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had a hand in the 60-day suspension of Rep. Kiko Barzaga (Cavite), saying the lawmaker was merely invoking the president’s name to defend himself.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said at a press briefing on Tuesday, December 2, that Marcos was not involved in any of the issues cited in the House Committee on Ethic’s decision.

“He is using the president’s name in relation to his suspension,” Castro said in Filipino. “Those lewd photos — the president had nothing to do with what he did or what he posted.”

She added that Marcos should also not be dragged into Barzaga’s statements about alleged disinformation involving the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“The president is not involved in what he claims as AFP disinformation,” she said. “What we see here is that he is using President Marcos Jr.’s name to justify his own acts of disinformation.”
