MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recorded its highest monthly collection this year in July, raking in P85.46 billion in revenues, according to a preliminary report released yesterday.

According to the bureau, the figure is 6.4 percent higher than the P80.35 billion collected in the same month last year. Month-on-month, it also showed a significant increase from P77 billion collected in June 2025.

Despite several days of suspension due to heavy rains and severe weather that disrupted port operations nationwide, the BOC attributed its strong performance to the “combined efforts” of its 17 collection districts and key revenue sources.

“From January to July 2025, the BOC collected a total of P544.2 billion, reinforcing its critical role in supporting the fiscal and economic agenda,” the bureau said in a statement.

The July collections included P3.1 billion from government importations under the Tax Expenditure Fund, P136.9 million from the Post-Clearance Audit Group and additional revenues from unpaid post-entry modifications.

“This achievement shows the power of good governance. With integrity and focus, we will continue to deliver results that benefit the Filipino people and support the President’s vision for nation-building,” newly appointed Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said.

The Cabinet-level Development Budget Coordination Committee earlier slashed the BOC’s 2025 revenue target to P990 billion from the original P1.06 trillion, citing lower tariffs and weak import growth.

For 2026, the bureau aims to breach the P1-trillion mark for the first time, setting a collection target of P1.1 trillion, which is 11 percent higher than this year’s assumption.

Nepomuceno said the agency will implement stricter enforcement measures and ramp up its anti-smuggling efforts to achieve the goal.

He added that the BOC will leverage digitalization to boost revenue by minimizing human intervention and reducing corruption risks.

Certified digital tools and third-party surveyors, he noted, will help prevent data tampering and ensure more transparent and accountable Customs operations.
