MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte urged the public to support the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this coming Christmas holidays despite the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video message, Duterte cited the importance of the MMFF that showcases the country’s rich culture and heritage in film.

This year, the festival entries will be screened online so that movie fans could watch the films while observing health protocols.

“This annual tradition, which began in 1975, has given the Filipino audience a time to enjoy the holidays with your families and friends. It is also the pioneer and foremost industry event that showcases the best Filipino film-making and how it compares with the rest of the world,” he said.

Throughout its illustrious history, Duterte said the MMFF “has given memorable films that conveyed the richness of our culture and heritage.”

“This year the festival entries can be seen online so that you can see them with your families in the safety of your homes,” he said.

“May this event continue to be a beacon of hope for advancement of Philippine cinema and for the growth of the nation. Mabuhay ang MMMF, mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino,” the President said.

The MMMF will have a diverse line-up this year that showcases 10 movies ranging from family drama, horror, action, thriller, romance, fantasy adventure to romantic comedy.
