MANILA, Philippines — The spokesman of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has tested positive for COVID-19, the bureau said yesterday.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, BuCor said its spokesman, Gabriel Chaclag, was tested for the virus earlier in the week, which came back positive yesterday morning.

He is among three BuCor personnel who are part of director general Gerald Bantag’s close-in staff who tested positive.

“(Chaclag) has since been quarantined with mild symptoms,” the statement read.

All personnel and staff who had interaction with him were advised to undergo assessment and swab testing.

Bantag has also undergone the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test for COVID-19 and is awaiting the results next week.
