55% of Pinoys comfortable about going to work – SWS

MANILA, Philippines — More than half of working Filipinos feel “comfortable” going to work in case the community quarantine ends, according to a recent mobile phone survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The SWS nationwide poll, taken from July 3 to 6, also found 47 percent of adult Filipinos saying they are “comfortable” about attending religious services.

Among those with jobs, 55 percent feel comfortable, of whom 20 percent are very comfortable and 34 percent are fairly comfortable about going to work.

Forty percent of working Filipinos, on the other hand, feel uncomfortable – comprised of 26 percent not very comfortable and 13 percent not at all comfortable.

Comfort about going to work was highest in Mindanao at 64 percent, followed by balance Luzon at 55 percent, the Visayas at 50 percent and Metro Manila at 45 percent.

It was higher among working men at 60 percent than among working women at 47 percent, the SWS noted.

Comfort about attending religious services was also highest in Mindanao and among Muslims.

In case the lockdown ends in August, the proportion of those comfortable about attending religious services was highest in Mindanao at 56 percent, followed by the Visayas at 47 percent, balance Luzon at 40 percent and Metro Manila at 39 percent.

It hardly varied among men and women at 46 percent and 44 percent, respectively.

SWS said Muslims and Iglesia ni Cristo are more comfortable about attending religious services at 71 percent and 58 percent, respectively.

It was 47 percent among Christians other than Roman Catholics and Iglesia ni Cristo; 42 percent among other non-Christian religions and 41 percent among Roman Catholics.

The SWS poll has 1,555 Filipino respondents aged 18 and above.
