'Hanna' now a typhoon; Signal No.1 up over Batanes, Babuyan
The typhoon was 625 km east of Basco, Batanes as of 5 a.m. and has maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

MANILA, Philippines — "Hanna" intensified into a typhoon early Wednesday morning as it moves west northwest, PAGASA said.

The typhoon was 625 km east of Basco, Batanes as of 5 a.m. and has maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

In an earlier briefing, PAGASA said "Hanna" was moving west northwest at 10 kph. 

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains raised over Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands, which means residents of those areas should be ready for winds of 30-60 kph and intermittent rains in the next 36 hours.

Although the typhoon is not expected to make landfall, PAGASA said moderate to heavy monsoon rains can be expected in the following areas:

  • Northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands)
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Romblon
  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Aklan
  • Antique

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Central Visayas and the Western Visayas can expect cloudy skies and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA is keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Krosa, which is  2,130 km east of the northernmost part of Luzon and a low pressure area 270 km west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Neither the storm nor the LPA are expected to affect weather in the country.

  • Thursday morning: 390 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes
  • Friday morning: 425 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes
  • Saturday morning: 625 km north of Basco, Batanes (Outside Philippine Area of Responsibility)
