3 Filipino families affected by Italy explosion
MANILA, Philippines — Three Filipino families were among those affected by the deadly explosion in Italy, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.
Citing information from the Philippine consulate in Milan, the DFA said the houses of three Filipino families with a total of 10 members in Bologna sustained major damage following the explosion of a fuel tanker last Monday.
No injuries were reported among the Filipino family members, who were evacuated by local authorities. Their identities, including that of two minor children and two infants, have yet to be released.
The DFA said the affected Filipinos are currently being accommodated at a local hotel.
Consul General Irene Susan Natividad said they will dispatch officials to assist Filipinos affected by the blast, as well as monitor if other Filipinos were affected by the incident.
At least two people died and 60 others were injured following the explosion that happened near Bologna airport.
Initial reports said the explosion was triggered when a fuel tanker crashed into another vehicle along a major highway.
“We are saddened by the loss of life in the accident in Bologna and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Natividad said.
