Villar still richest, Escudero poorest senator

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Cynthia Villar remains the wealthiest senator with a net worth of P3.5 billion in 2015, according to her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth that she submitted.

The lone billionaire in the Senate registered the highest increase in her net worth from P1.983 billion in 2014 or 76.5 percent.

Meanwhile, Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero turned out the poorest senator with P5.8 million last year, a decrease from his P6.049 net worth in 2014.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who was the poorest senator in 2014, registered an increase in net worth from P5.5 million in 2014 to P5.9 million last year.

Sen. Ralph Recto emerged as the second richest senator with an increase in his net worth from P522 million in 2014 to P531.6 million last year.

Aside from Villar, Trillanes and Recto, 12 other senators recorded an increase in their net worth from 2014 to 2015.

  • Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito - P75.5 million to P78.675 million
  • Vicente "Tito" Sotto III - P64.28 million to P66.8 million
  • Lito Lapid  - P33.8 million to P43.15 million
  • Loren Legarda - P39.6 million to P40.545 million
  • Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV - P24.5 million to P28.751 million
  • Alan Peter Cayetano - P23.314 million to P23.564 million

Meanwhile, eight other senators posted a decrease in their net worth:

  • Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. - P181.87 million to P173.4 million
  • Teofisto "TG" Guingona III - P113.38 million to 103.8 million
  • Sergio Osmeña III - P100.77 million to P90.5 million
  • Grace Poe-Llamanzares - P89.46 million to P89.1 million
  • Pia Cayetano - P73.41 million to P73.3 million
  • Nancy Binay - P62.56 million to P61.3 million
  • Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II - P21.225 million to P20.944 million
  • Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III - P18 million to P17.9 million

Under Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, government officials and employees are required to file their SALNs annually.
