Comelec to voters: Prepare your kodigo

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – To speed up the voting process, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista yesterday urged the public to bring their kodigo (codes) to polling precincts when they vote on May 9.

According to Bautista, having a kodigo will not only save time but will also allow voters to carefully discern who they should vote for.

“Because of the voter receipts, the voting process has become longer. But if the voters already know who to vote for, they can speed up the process. So, our call is for voters to think ahead of election day the candidates of their choice,” he said.

Bautista added that voters should prepare their list of candidates so that they will not miss out on anyone.

The Comelec has been required by the Supreme Court to print voter receipts to allow voters to verify if the votes they cast were counted accurately by the machines.

The poll body has resisted this but the high tribunal junked its motion for reconsideration.
