PCP wants licenses of doctors in PhilHealth scam revoked

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) is seeking the revocation of the license of medical practitioners involved in the alleged multimillion-peso anomaly in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

The licenses of erring eye doctors must be revoked if they are found guilty of violating their Hippocratic oath, PCP president Anthony Leachon said in a statement.

Some eye doctors have been reported to be conspiring with “seekers” who bring patients to clinics.

“The regulatory agency should proactively flex its big muscles to preserve the integrity of the (medical) profession,”  he said.

“The case of erring doctors has to be addressed as soon as possible. Fraud of this nature is a group crime. For as long as the regulatory, justice and penal systems are weak and unpredictable, and the internal controls are leaky and static, collusion will thrive.”

PhilHealth must be rebuilt to make it more relevant to the needs of Filipinos, Leachon said.

“With the huge sin tax funds added to PhilHealth coffers, we deserve a better system,” he said.

“I have not seen the full force of the law being used on this matter. People are waiting.“
