5 Pinoys killed in Qatar road mishap

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday confirmed reports that five Filipinos were killed in a road accident in Qatar.

Citing information from DFA spokesman Charles Jose, radio reports said the Filipino fatalities included three family members based in Qatar and two others from Saudi Arabia.

The Gulf Times first reported that the Filipino fatalities were burnt to death when their car caught fire after being hit by another vehicle near the Hamad International Airport on Monday.

A Philippine embassy official reportedly told Gulf Times that all bodies "had been charred beyond recognition."

"The bodies have so badly been burnt that even the gender of the deceased could not be verified. Forensic examination would be required to identify the victims," the Gulf Times quoted the unidentified official as saying.

The report added that a Filipina passenger was also "severely injured." - Louis Bacani
