Police target to reduce crimes in MM by half by 2015

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Police target to bring down street crimes in Metro Manila by 50 percent by 2015, the National Capital Region Police Office said on Tuesday.

NCRPO director Chief Superintendent Carmelo Valmoria has ordered police district head in the metropolis during the yearly New Year's Day Call at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City to work double time to achieve the target, according to reports.

During the same event, Valmoria said the crime index in Metro Manila was higher last year because blotters and complaints coming from barangays were included unlike in 2012 when the reports came from police stations.

Valmoria's marching order came following the spate of shooting incidents in Metro Manila, including the shooting of grandson of standup comedian and known impersonator Willie Nepomuceno in Marikina City.

Nepomuceno's 16-year-old  grandson was seriously wounded after he and three of his friends were attacked by gun wielding men after having breakfast in an eatery last week.

The victim sustained three gunshot wounds in the body.
