Estrada mobilizes PACE, NHA for mass housing info drive

-

President Estrada has mobilized two government agencies to help disseminate information about his administration's mass housing program to the people.

The President said he instructed the Presidential Action Center (PACE) and the National Housing Authority (NHA) to provide information to prospective beneficiaries.

"Those two offices have staff members who will assist you. They will guide you in applying for your own homes," the President said.

He said the NHA's office is located along Elliptical Road in Quezon City, while the PACE is at the Tahanan ng Masa building near Malacañang in Manila.

Mr. Estrada said this is in response to numerous requests from the public for information on how to avail themselves of the government's housing program.

One of the requests came from a resident of Navotas, who talked with the President in his radio program Itawag Mo Kay Erap on dzRH.

Mass housing is one of the President's five centerpiece programs for the new millennium.

The others are peace and order, food security, the fight against graft and corruption, and electoral reforms.

Mr. Estrada said his administration plans to instensify the housing program this year. He said this would stimulate growth in other sectors.

The President said his administration's housing program would be demand-driven and tailored for the end user, unlike previous programs that allowed suppliers and builders to make quick money at the government's expense.

The Chief Executive also plans to fulfill his promise to give police personnel, soldiers and other government employees their own houses before his term ends in 2004.
