MANILA, Philippines (Updated 3:33 p.m.) — Fans of Korean artist Nam Joo Hyuk called out fellow members of the fandom for disrespecting the actor’s personal space.

A video posted on Twitter showed fans rushing to the stage, with some putting their arms around Nam’s body. One fan was seen slipping her hand inside the actor’s polo.

Dara, who was also with Nam for the event, was pushed aside in the excitement of fans.

Nam looked visibly uncomfortable during the incident which happened during the meet and greet part of a fancon held in Manila, but he continued to finish the photo op with the selected fans. Some 200 lucky attendees of the event got to take an official photo with Nam and Dara.

The video has landed headlines even in South Korea as many pointed out the rude behavior of the fans.

While the fancon allowed selected fans to play trivia and drama re-enactment games with the artists, the meet and greet allowed the fans to have their official photo taken with the artists.

They also pointed out that fans, no matter how excited they are, should recognize the personal space of their idols.

A Philippine fan group of Nam posted on Twitter an apology in behalf of the fandom in the country over the incident.

"We know many are disappointed on how some fans showed their excitement upon seeing him upclose on stage. Nevertherless, we ask for forgiveness on what had transpired," it said.

In a story posted by Wired in 2013, it listed some convention etiquettes for attendees of a comic convention where cosplayers and artists also get to interact with fans.

They said that if a fan wants a photo with an artist or cosplayer, they should “ask, and ask politely, rather than snapping the picture covertly.”

They also listed that a fan should be careful in asking questions to artists or cosplayers. “If you want to compliment someone, stick to their creativity and skills, not their looks, no matter how attractive you might find them,” they said.

Fans should also know how to “respect everyone else’s space.” — Kristine Joy Patag
