Veteran actress Lollie Mara dies at 86

MANILA, Philippines — Veteran actress Gloria “Lollie” Mara has died, her family confirmed. She was 86.
Mara’s family confirmed her death in a Facebook post on Sunday. The cause of her death was not revealed.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Gloria ‘Loly’ Mara. We are all heartbroken. Words cannot express how much our mom meant to us,” the family wrote on the actress’ Facebook page.
They described Lollie as “strongest, most compassionate and deeply” loving mother and grandmother.
“Her presence lit up every room, and her warmth touched countless lives. She was truly loved by many, and her legacy of kindness and thoughtfulness will live on in all of us,” the family added.
Mara is known for playing character roles on TV and films. Her film credits include “Ang Bagong Pamilya ni Ponching,” “Stella Magtanggol,” "Be Careful With My Heart," and “Praybeyt Benjamin.”
In 2016, she tied with Elizabeth Oropesa for Best Supporting Actress in the Cinemalaya movie “Ang Bagong Pamilya ni Ponching.”
Apart from acting, Mara also entered public service during the time of former President Fidel V. Ramos as head of Radio Television Malacanang.
Lollie was the sister of the late entertainment editor Manny Pichel and mother to actor Lorenzo Mara.
