MANILA, Philippines — The pandemic has not stopped Viva from producing content. While films were kept at the backburner, theaters were closed and artists were suddenly not active in making films, Viva brilliantly launched its streaming platform, Vivamax, on January 2021 that gave jobs to countless production people and artists, as well.

A year into the pandemic, Viva offered new opportunity of direct-to-consumer service with Vivamax that churns out content, making Viva the busiest studio in the country.

What started as a dream project of Viva’s Boss Vic del Rosario to bring entertainment directly to Filipinos here and abroad, has produced two streaming platforms to date, Vivamax and the newest being Viva One.

To date, Vivamax has successfully gained seven million subscribers. “Every week, we have new content on the platform that we give to the audience,” disclosed Valerie del Rosario, senior vice president for Content Creation and Development, TV Production and Creative Research of Viva Communication, Inc.

Viva president and COO Vincent del Rosario.

“Vivamax has risqué or more adult theme and edgy content for mature audiences, while Viva One is the new platform launched and it caters to more family-oriented releases appreciated by more audiences.”

Both platforms bring a myriad of film offerings to specific audiences. “Whatever audience our platforms cater to, we are able to define them,” Valerie said. “We have seven million for Vivamax, while Viva One has half-a-million after only three months.”

The numbers apparently continue to grow. Vivamax is eyeing 10 million subscribers by the end of this year.

Although the MTRCB does not totally govern the classification of the materials online, Viva said it remains vigilant in releasing its films.

“When MTRCB received calls complaining about content or promotion of materials, we always act on them,” said Vincent del Rosario, president of Viva. “Whether or not the material is too sexy or violent, we always remember that our audience is global, not just local.”

The personality of Vivamax’s platform is clear. Cutting-edge is how one will describe it. “Others might afford the monthly subscription, although their Internet load can be a problem,” Vincent explained. “We are offering the subscribers very affordable rates. That’s our commitment to our consumers.”

Viva One boasts a treasure trove of much-awaited titles and new content. Director Darryl Yap’s Martyr or Murderer debuted on the platform, while The Rain in España series is presently streaming, the first out of the six bestselling Wattpad books that have amassed combined reads of 580 million.

Other big titles to watch out for on Viva One are Deadly Love, with Jaclyn Jose and Marco Gumabao, McCoy de Leon and Louise de los Reyes, as well as Road Killers, with Nadine Lustre and her Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) award-winner, Deleter.

The period flick, Sa Muli, with Xian Lim and Ryza Cenon, while Xian’s directorial job, Hello, Universe with Janno Gibbs and his screen reunion with Kim Chiu, Always, will be streamed, too. Another title is Expensive Candy, that paired for the first time Carlo Aquino and Julia Barretto.

Meanwhile, on Vivamax, award-winning director Brillante Mendoza has two upcoming releases — Hosto and Japino (Japanese and Filipino), Joey Reyes has Secret Campus and Choose(y), MacArthur Alejandre’s Call Me Alma and Burlesk Queen, Jerry Lopez Sineneng’s Rita, Yam Laranas’ Bugaw and Topel Lee’s Tayuan.

Jeffrey Hidalgo has a new sexy tryst, Ilang, Paul Basinilio has Sex Hurts, GB Sampedro has three more this year with Hilom, High on Sex 2 and Tuhog, while Law Fajardo has Ben and Ana and Erotica Manila and Roman Perez Jr. has Litsoneras and Kamadoras.

The Rain in España series, topbilled by Heaven Peralejo and Marco Gallo, is presently streaming, the first out of the six bestselling Wattpad books that have amassed combined reads of 580 million.
