Angel Locsin: Maricel Soriano not really a ‘Taray Queen’

MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin had nothing but praises for the “Diamond Star” Maricel Soriano, though she admitted that she felt nervous doing a scene with the veteran actress.

Speaking before the media during the press conference of her new teleserye “The General’s Daughter,” Angel said Maricel was the first actor she made her first scene with on the first taping day of the series.

“Sobrang kinabahan talaga ko ng malaman ko na sa ang unang makaka-eksena ko sa first taping day ay walang iba kung hindi ang Diamond Star Maricel Soriano. So takot na takot talaga ko kasi parang feeling ko hindi pa ko ganong ka-ready with my character,” Angel said.

She also described how professional Maricel is on the set. Maricel, according to Angel, was always early in the set.

“Si Nay (Maricel) alas kwatro pa lang ng umaga, alas siyete ‘yung call time namin, kinakatok na kami sa kwarto, ganoon siya ka-professional. Doon palang kabado na ko. Pagdating sa set, sunblock nalang ilalagay ko sa mukha ko, hindi na ko nakapag-makeup kasi nandoon na po ang Maricel Soriano, nasa set na po, nagaantay na po, ready na lahat,” she said.

The “Action Drama Queen” jokingly said that she asked the “Diamond Star” not to be too professional because she was having a difficulty to keep up.

“Pang third day, kinausap ko na siya. 'Nay pwede ba ‘wag kang masyadong professional nahihirapan na ko e. Sunblock talaga ilalagay ko sa mukha ko?' Tawa lang siya nang tawa,” Angel shared.

Apart from being professional on the set, Angel commended Maricel for being generous in sharing life hacks. She also described Maricel as a great artist and a timeless actress.   

“Pero si Nay, very generous. Hindi siya madamot mag-share ng experiences niya, ng mga techniques sa buhay. At pag umarte talaga siya, ‘yung mata talagang nangungusap. Ang husay husay talaga kasi hindi siya namemeke ng eksena, galing puso lagi, kaya nakakapressure na sabayan kasi ang perfect e,” Angel narrated.

“She's very nice. ‘Yung mga naririnig niyong mataray, baka gusto niya lang maging image niya ‘yon para hindi siya kulitin,” she enthused. — Video by Erwin Cagadas Jr.
