Maria Isabel Lopez on ASEAN ‘security breach’: I became a second class citizen

MANILA, Philippines — Actress and former beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez on Sunday said her becoming a second class citizen in our own country prompted her to violate the traffic rules.
Lopez issued an apology on Sunday evening admitting her mistake of violating the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations’ traffic protocol.
She however defended herself saying she got stuck along EDSA on Saturday evening and several others also broke the traffic scheme.
“Aminado naman ako na pasaway talaga ako. ‘Di naman ako nagmamalinis although alam ko naman na maraming nagalit naging insensitive sila pero as human nature to survive you'll also have to do it,” Lopez said in a televised interview with GMA News’ 24 Oras.
“‘Di lang naman ako, sobrang dami naming. I become a second class citizen in our own country,” she added, referring to the inconvenience caused by the country’s hosting of the ASEAN Summit.
Lopez said she is sorry to those who got hurt and affected by her act.
A social media post of Lopez recently became viral after she shared that she drove with hazards “on” at the designated ASEAN lane. She also said that she removed the divider cones for the said lanes.
Lopez also posted a video of her showing how she got away with her act saying the Metro Manila Development Authority thought she was an ASEAN delegate.
Due to this, Lopez may be penalized by the Land Transportation Office. The MMDA and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said they would recommend revocation or suspension of Lopez’s driver’s license.

The traffic authorities said she committed a “serious breach of security.”
Other transport and traffic agencies such as the Department of Transportation, Interior and Local Government and ASEAN Task Forces, expressed support on the MMDA and LTFRB’s move to recommend suspension or revocation of Lopez’s driver’s license.
The DILG implemented a lockdown on several areas which would affect roads during the summit.
Last Saturday, several commuters complained about the heavy traffic along major roads due to the arrival summit delegates in Metro Manila and in Pampanga.
