Derek on Kris' love life: 'She deserves to be happy'

MANILA, Philippines – Derek Ramsay, who admitted he is currently dating a non-showbiz girl, said he chooses to be more private when it comes to matters of the heart.

 

“Napag-usapan namin na mas gusto namin tahimik lang para tignan natin kung saan pupunta kasi matanda na ako,” the Kapatid actor told members of the press on the sidelines of the TV5-sponsored dinner party during the Ad Summit Pilipinas 2014 last week.

 

Derek was in a six-year relationship with ABS-CBN actress Angelica Panganiban before breaking up in 2012. He was also in a short-lived romance with “No Other Woman” co-star Cristine Reyes. 

 

Those failed relationships made him realize that, this time around, he wants “want to be relaxed, get to know the person and see where it's going.”

 

“It's like, before we can even decide what's gonna happen, nauuna na kami,” he said of his previous relationships with Angelica and Cristine. “And just the constant pressure of being questioned about where the relationship's going, hearing this, hearing that. For me, I don't want the pressure on my shoulders.”

 

'Be choosy'

 

Meanwhile, Derek said his friendship with  Kris Aquino remain intact, after the two were rumored to be dating.

 

As it turned out, at the time, Kris was dating Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista. The ABS-CBN TV host-actress later said she and Herbert are “not a couple” but “best of friends.”

 

Derek said of Kris, “She deserves somebody to love her. She's a wonderful person. With her love life, I think she deserves to be happy.”

 

The TV5 actor revealed he gave Kris an advice about her love life.

 

“I just told her to be careful. Take her time, be careful. She's been in and out of relationships, she's been hurt. As a friend, you don't want to see your friend get hurt. So I told her to be careful. Be a little bit choosy naman, di ba? Be choosy,” Derek shared. “For me, I just don't want to see a friend get hurt.”

 

By choosy, he meant Kris should take her time. “I don't really believe in the Maria Clara event, pero parang ganun, parang mas pa-hard to get. Hindi porke't nararamdaman mo na, just jump in there.”

 

He added, “That's what I mean by be choosy. I want you to take your time, be smarter, guard your heart, guard your mind. You don't have to rush naman, e. If yung taong nanliligaw is serious about you, maghihintay yun.”

 

Derek is part of the film “The Janitor,” an entry in the upcoming Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. He will also host the second season of TV5's local adaptation of the reality show “The Amazing Race.”
