Ben Rubio: Character Actor of '40s, '50s

In the mid-‘40s and ‘50s, one of the finest character actors was Ben Rubio, who appeared in movies mostly produced by LVN. They included Voice of Freedom and Angelus (1964), In Despair and Prinsipe Amante (1950), Bayan o Pag-ibig (1951).

Outside LVN, Rubio’s films were, among others: Siete Dolores (1974), Kami ang Sugatan (1950), Kalbaryo ni Hesus and Darna at Ang Babaing Lawin (1952).

In Voice of Freedom, he shared stellar billing with Jose Padilla Jr., Norma Blancaflor and Linda Estrella. In Angelus, Rubio co-starred with Arsenia Francisco and Carlos Padilla. —RKC
