Nobody, nothing can stop Kristine from migrating to Canada

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
It’s definite: Kristine Hermosa is migrating to Canada anytime now, together with her parents and three siblings. Nobody and nothing can stop her now.

"Our papers have been approved," Kristine told Funfare after the presscon yesterday of Star Cinema’s All My Life, her first movie with Aga Muhlach. "We’re just waiting now for a call or notice from the Canadian Embassy before we leave for Canada."

It was Kristine’s parents who filed the application two years ago. Kristine has been sending "feelers" since then that she might have to kiss showbiz goodbye and go to Canada.

"We plan to go to Toronto first to visit my cousins and then we’ll go to Vancouver where we will eventually reside," said Kristine who has gone to Vancouver once. "It’s a beautiful place. Gusto ko pag tanda ng Mommy at Daddy namin, doon sila tumira."

Kristine could stay and go on with her career but she dreaded the prospect of being alone while her family is intact in Vancouver.

"Besides," she said, "I want to enjoy life as an ordinary citizen; I want to lead a normal life. You know, ’yung nagbi-babysit ng mga anak ng pinsan namin."

Now into her early 20s, Kristine started in showbiz at age 12 on ABS-CBN’s kiddie show Ang TV (the alma mater of several popular young stars today). Soon, she graduated to bubble-gum flicks under Star Cinema and became a soap princess when she teamed up on the ABS-CBN telenovela Pangako Sa’yo with Jericho Rosales, her perennial loveteam-mate also on the big screen (Forevermore, Ngayong Nandito Ka, etc.), and now former boyfriend.

In All My Life, directed by Laurenti Dyogi, Kristine plays her first "mature" role as a broken-hearted girl who meets and falls in love with a terminally-ill travel bug (played by Aga) during a cruise. She has had kissing scenes with Jericho but in All My Life, Kristine goes a bit "daring" with her kissing scene with Aga whom she described as a gentleman "who comforted me before, during and after the shooting."

All My Life
, showing in Metro Manila third week of May, is the second to the last movie on Kristine’s contract with Star Cinema and her last before she goes to Vancouver.

"I’ll stay there for six months and then come back to fulfill my remaining commitments (for ABS-CBN and Star Cinema). I’ve been working non-stop since I joined Ang TV; pagod na rin ako. I’m happy with the blessings but then, I haven’t really learned to be comfortable in showbiz. Hindi ako ‘to. I’ve chosen my career before and this time, I want to give myself a break."

In Vancouver, Kristine will finish high school (she was in third year when she quit) and take up Interior Design or any art course in college.

No truth to the rumor that she’s going to Vancouver to follow Michael Bublé with whom she has been romantically linked after they met here last year during Bublé’s first visit and became "cyber friends" who regularly communicate through the e-mail.

"He’s just a friend," said the "loveless" Kristine who has been linked to other actors (Luis Manzano among them and now Diether Ocampo, her leading man in the ABS-CBN soap Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas) after she broke up with Jericho ("Still my good friend").

What do Bublé and she discuss on their e-mail exchange?

"Nothing much. Just ‘Hi’s!’ and ‘Hello’s!’ I’m busy and so is he. During Bublé’s second concert here in September last year, Bublé sang The Way You Look Tonight with his eyes fixed on Kristine who was in the audience.

"I like all his songs," said Kristine, "but my two favorites are Come Fly With Me and Put Your Head on My Shoulder."

She said she clicked with Diet because they have the same personality.

"He’s a special friend. Mabait, down-to-earth. He’s also quiet like me."

But nobody (not even Diet) and nothing can stop Kristine from going to Canada.

Why did she have to go now that her career is at its peak, when she’s at her prime?

"A lot of people have been asking me, ‘Hindi ka ba nanghihinayang sa career mo?’ As I said, I’ve been in this business for many years. Gusto ko naman pagbigyan ang sarili ko."
