Andrew E.: The Laughter Continues
How do you know the person you're attracted to is The One? It was no big deal for Andrew E. He knew it when he saw then girlfriend Myleen Yap (they got married March 9) sleep on the hard cold cement floor of the recording studio while waiting for the rapper to complete Wholesome, his album for Sony Records. It was cold where Myleen, 12 years Andrew's junior, spent the night for the few days her sweetheart worked his album.
But she didn't mind. Not that she's used to the hard life. Her family owns several properties in Boracay, and she was being groomed to manage one of them. That's why she went to Manila and took up tourism in La Consolacion College, where she just graduated a few months back.
Myleen saw the serious, responsible guy behind the comedian and decided she'll stick by him, come hell or high water.
She has no reason to regret her decision so far. At the presscon of Andrew E's comeback movie, Mana-Mana, Tiba Tiba (Viva Films), Myleen and Andrew were inseparable. She'd pat him gently at the back and wait patiently while Andrew talked to members of the press.
Myleen is now Andrew's secretary, reminding him of his appointments, making sure his life is in order. And she has a lot to be busy about these days.
Although Andrew has not had had any film released since Estranghero was shown three years ago, he has been booked solid for shows in Japan, where he stayed for almost two months.
Andrew is also co-producing a mini tape entitled Bakajanai with a Japanese friend. He has also working on a CD to be released in Japan. And, since Wholesome was such a hit, Andrew will record its sequel, Much More Wholesome, this month.
Thus, Andrew was never idle even while away from the cameras.
He never was the type to let grass grow under his feet. He'd dabble in business (he owns the Federal Express branch at Robinsons Galleria, where he first met Myleen when she wanted to send a package to a relative in the US), for which he appears cut out for.
Andrew also put up Dongalo Records a few years back.
That's what Myleen saw in the outwardly carefree Andrew.
"He's the opposite of what he appears in public. He thinks a lot and was never gross. And he's definitely no playboy like some people warned me he'd be," Myleen says, casting a loving look at her husband.
There has been no formal honeymoon so far, since the offer from Japan came on the heels of their wedding. Thus it will be a long-delayed honeymoon for the couple when they fly to San Francisco in July and spend one month in the US.
Myleen is not pregnant yet, but the two are looking forward to having children. Myleen wants four while Andrew will settle for three.
That long-delayed honeymoon could be just what Andrew and Myleen need to start a growing family.
