WATCH: Philippine embassy personnel rescue distressed OFWs in Kuwait

MANILA, Philippines — Personnel from the Philippine Embassy's Assistance To Nationals section are still conducting rescue operations for distressed Filipino workers in Kuwait.

In a video released by the Department of Foreign Affairs, rescue teams go as far as knocking on doors to find Filipino domestic helpers who have cried out for help.

The rescue teams are composed of embassy personnel and augmentation teams from the DFA's Office of Migrant Workers Affairs.

According to the DFA, as many as 26 Filipino workers have been rescued since April 7.

"If the household service worker has injuries, Kuwaiti police are immediately called in and the Embassy takes custody of the Filipino," the DFA said in a statement released Thursday.

Rescue operations require police assistance but Office of Migrant Workers Affairs Executive Director Raul Dado said that, in some cases, rescue teams had to do it on their own, especially in cases on sexual and physical abuse.

"Executive Director Dado says his teams would proceed to the given address, knock and request the employer to present the Filipino worker," the DFA said.

Earlier this year, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a deployment ban on Kuwait following a report of a Filipina domestic helper found dead in a freezer.
