UV sweeps gymnastics medals

CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) gymnasts hauled a total of 29 golds, 21 silvers and six bronzes to dominate the elementary and secondary division of gymnastics event in the 23rd Cebu City Olympics yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

After making waves in the recent BatangPinoy Championships in Manila, UV remains the top team in gymnastics after another dominating performance in both elementary and secondary event.

Marianne Alegado harvested all golds in the elementary rhythmic gymnastics while teammate Daniela Reggie Dela Pisa got all the silver medals. Alegado, Dela Pisa along with Marthina Dreus also won the gold in the team event.

Eunice Ginell and Euricka Eisley Soriano had a 1-2 finish in the women's artistic event while another UV bet Lowe Ann Ybiernas nabbed a bronze medal.The three also won the team gold.

Renante Padilla was also unbeaten in the men's artistic gymnastics claiming a total of four golds for UV as Daniella's brother Randal Iverson Dela Pisa grabbed all individual silvers in their class. UV's men's elementary team also got the team gold against.

Janrie Moga and Eunice Odag handed a total of eight medals to lead UV’s charge in the secondary division. UV also swept the WAG event with Francin Ly Coyoca, Deianne Sophia Navarro and Desirei Padilla dominating the WAG event.

Over at the oval, the University of Cebu (UC) made a big impact in athletics under the secondary division while the University of San Carlos (USC)-BED spearheads the elementary division.

UC leads with 10 golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes trailed by USC with 6-6-6 gilts as Abellana National School garnered five golds, two silvers and four bronzes.

The gold medalists for UC were Jan Moses Estrada, Joseph Camingao, Elyzza Mae Salinas, Kenneth Robledo, Shantel Tanucan, Ray Talicug and Rhea Japitan.

In the elementary level, USC-BED so far has 8-2-3 gold-silver-bronze, followed by South District-4 with four golds and five bronzes while Cebu Institute of Technology University gathered two golds, three silvers and five bronzes.
