CBM bets shine in Bohol swimfest

CEBU, Philippines - The members of the Cebu Blue Marlins made their school break worthwhile by dominating the latest edition of the G-League Short Course Swimming Championships at the Tres Sophias Resort in Dao, Dauis of Panglao Island, Bohol.

The wards of coach Rolando Alvarez clinched the overall championship with a total of 1,051 points. The Silliman University (SU) Red Snappers of Dumaguete City finished second with 853 points followed by the Bohol Dolphins with 663 points and the Negros Oriental Blue Dolphins with 417 points.

As expected, the University of Cebu (UC) varsity swimmers contributed the most number of medals for CBM led by the Caneda siblings Noel, Matthew Angelo and Trina with a combined medal tally of nine golds and six silvers.

Michael Ichiro Kong churned out four golds, Israel Gabunada finished with one gold and four silvers and Jay Clifford Fernandez with four golds and a silver.

In the distaff side, Karen Mae Indaya donated five golds, Annita Monterola posted one gold, three silvers and two bronzes, May Arellano with four golds and two silvers, Shane Allyne Pareja with two golds, two silvers and a bronze and Romylin Nina Ignacio with two golds and four silvers.

Aaron Grant Embuscado of the University of San Carlos-North Campus handed over four golds and a silver for CBM, while Edchelle Marie Embuscado, who is with Velez College now, had one silver and two bronzes.

Like the Canedas and Embuscados, the Ebons and Bagacays of USC-South Campus and the Garridos also made their presence felt.

Tristan Kirk Ebon ended his bid with three golds, one silver and one bronze, while Tara Kyla Ebon collected six golds. Danielle Bagacay chipped in two golds and four silvers as Doraine Bagacay added four golds. Razel Cabajar turned over two golds, one silver and one bronze.

Justine Reign Garrido of the Centre for International Education went away with one gold, two silvers and three bronzes, while Jehaos Reign Garrido, who’s studying at Bright Academy, dished out four golds.

Labangon Elementary School’s Jobert Indaya swam his way to three golds, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Val Andre Chui picked up five golds, while Rafael John Dacaldacal minted one gold and two silvers.

In the novice division, CBM’s bets also made a valuable contribution. Tanya Sy of St.Theresa’s College bagged three golds, Kaye Sy with four golds, Nikkie Sy with one gold and Bernie Gomez with four golds.

CBM also grabbed two golds, three silvers and two bronzes in the relay event to seal its bid in the Bohol joust. (FREEMAN)
