World dancesport event bets from 8 countries to join

CEBU, Philippines - Competitors from eight countries will gather at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on September 26 for the 2010 Cebu ISDF World DanceSport Open and 5th DanceSport sa Sugbu.

Set to take part are athletes from Turkey, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and host Philippines.

As a prelude to the international event, the top dancers from around the country will also be competing against each other in DanceSport sa Sugbu.

Set to join are dancers from Manila, Makati, Pasig, Baguio, Tacurong, Sarangani, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, General Santos, Davao, Dumaguete, and host Cebu.

DanceSport has become one of the most popular spectator sports in this part of the world, which also holds the record for the biggest dance class.

The event is backed by the Cebu City Government, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, Department of Tourism and Philippine Sports Commission.

It is also supported by Panasonic, Port Restaurant, Living Asia, Business Mirror, Casino Femme, Alegre Beach Resort and Spa, French Baker, Alpa City Suites, and Alcordo Advertising.

Also set to take part in the event will be beneficiaries of the outreach program of DanceSport Team Cebu City that has been conducting free clinics in various barangays around the city.

Over 3,000 youth have benefitted from the project where the athletes serve as volunteer instructors in bringing DanceSport to the remotest of barangays of Cebu City.

The organizers hope that the event will further encourage the youth to hone their skills in DanceSport where Cebu City athletes have won several medals in various parts of the globe.
