Silliman eyes first win in VAAA caging today

Smarting from back-to-back defeats, the Silliman University (SU) Stallions hope to notch their first victory right in their own backyard as the Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) basketball action shifts to Dumaguete City today.

The SU Stallions will host the Asian College of Science and Technology (ACSAT) Lightnings in the main game at 4:30, right after Foundation University (FU) makes its debut in the regional cage league against the Bohol Institute of Technology (BIT) Cruisers at 3 pm.

During their Cebu sojourn last week, the SU Stallions were vanquished by the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers.

ACSAT, on the other hand, split its games, winning over SCSIT before crumbling at the hands of title favorite USC.

Before the SU-ACSAT showdown, FU is raring to make an impression in its first appearance in the fledgling league bankrolled by M. Lhuilier Kwarta Padala, Nature's Spring Drinking Water, and Cokaliong Shipping Lines.

FU, however, must brace for a tough challenge as the BIT Cruisers are also hungry for a win after dropping their first two assignments during the season-opening matches two weeks ago at the Aznar Coliseum.

BIT both lost to the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars.

USC, SWU and USJ-R are currently in a three-way tie on top of the leaderboard with similar 2-0 win-loss records.

Tomorrow, Western Leyte College of Ormoc City will make its VAAA debut against ACSAT still at the SU Gym at 4:30 pm.

In the opening skirmish scheduled at 3 pm, USJ-R shoots for the solo lead when it takes on FU.
