CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested after he was tagged in the killing of his live-in partner in Sitio Bantayan, Barangay Poblacion, Cordova.

Daniel “Ontong” Menguito, 51, was arrested yesterday by virtue of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Hon. Victor Teves of Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office on November 17.

Menguito allegedly killed his live-in partner, Cristina Hilanguhay, four months ago after rumors reached him that the victim was having an affair with somebody else.

The accused stabbed Hilanguhay repeatedly in the different parts of her body causing her instantaneous death.

SPO3 Teofilo Amodia of Cordova Police Station said Menguito had a drinking session with his friends before the incident happened.

When the accused went home that evening, he and the victim allegedly engaged in an altercation and at the height of their verbal tussle, he allegedly went to the kitchen and took a knife and stabbed the victim several times.

Menguito immediately fled after the incident.

Hilanguhay’s son saw her body lying lifeless on the floor.

Menguito was later arrested by the responding police officers but he was released after relatives of the victim failed to file a case against him.

“Nahuman na ang reglamentary period dapat namo buhian kay kami unya ang makasuhan,” Amodia told The FREEMAN.

Yesterday, the police arrested Menguito at about 9:30 a.m. while he was paddling his pedicab after the court released a warrant of arrest against him for murder. — THE FREEMAN
