Batulao: Gateway to Nasugbu

-

MANILA, Philippines – Mystique has colored Mount Batulao in Nasugbu, Batangas with many legends and stories.

The most famous of these is the fascinating phenomenon that occurs in the last week of December, when the sun nestles right in between the two peaks creating a scene described by natives as “ilaw sa dalawang bato” or “bato sa ilaw” (“illuminated rocks”), from which “Batulao” derives its name.

True enough, Batulao is considered as one of the most remarkable mountains in the Philippines. Its distinct features make it stand out from any other mountains in the country.

With its cool and crisp weather that drop to as low as 18 degrees Celsius in the early morning of cooler months, Mount Batulao presents a rare mountain-climbing experience for active mountaineers. The jagged natural beauty of Mount Batulao’s slopes and valleys are famous for their camping sites, most often visited by ROTC trainees and scouts of all ages. It is also an ideal venue for equestrian experiences where one can gallop atop fine steeds across its undulating vistas.

Tagged as the “Mountain of Salvation” by pilgrims, atop of its summit is an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Considered to be a sacred mountain, Marian devotees hold a healing session on this mountain twice a year. Located at the same terrain is Batulao’s “younger sister” - Mount Talamitam. The image of the twin peaks of Batulao and Talamitam are often described as a smaller version of Europe’s Alps.

Named after the lush Talamitam trees that grow in its environs, Mt. Talamitam’s gentle hills are covered with cogon grasses, its summit is an easy climb for new mountaineers. Within the slopes and valleys of Mt. Talamitam lie many plantation areas and farmlands.

The true beauty of Batulao is highlighted in Sandari Batulao, a premier mountainside township of 800 hectares of lush greens and undulating hills.

Set at the foot of Mt. Batulao, Sandari is a mountainside township development of Citystate Properties and Management Corporation under the vision of Ambassador Antonio Cabangon Chua.

Sandari Batulao is projected to institute an ideal community providing a quiet and serene atmosphere that mountain living brings. Thus, allowing guests and residents to experience a laid-back and nature-oriented lifestyle that nurtures healthy living.

Spearheading the township’s masterplan is Singaporean Architect Liu Thai Ker who is known for the successful spatial planning and implementation of Singapore’s urban development.
