MANILA, Philippines —  Cybercrime investigators of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are tracking down the administrators of nine social media accounts for allegedly attempting to sow public disorder during President Marcos’ State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The Anti-Cybercrime Group is coordinating with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center for leads on the identities of the people behind the online accounts, which the CICC took down.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the digital data of the social media accounts have been preserved for investigation to unmask the perpetrators.

“We respect every Filipino’s right to free expression, but we will take appropriate legal action against those who use digital platforms to incite violence, spread threats or facilitate criminal activities,” Nartatez said in a statement.

Those found responsible for the online accounts may face complaints for computer fraud, identity theft, grave threats, inciting to sedition and rebellion.

The CICC earlier flagged the social media accounts said to be linked to hacker groups, which aimed to sow chaos against the government during the SONA.

Probers are also looking into the links between the hackers and the planting of improvised explosive devices in front of the Department of Justice and the Senate.

Nartatez said investigators have established leads on the perpetrators behind the incidents.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant, avoid sharing unverified or malicious content and immediately report suspicious online posts to authorities,” he said.
