5 suspects in kidnap of Indian nabbed

MANILA, Philippines — Police rescued an Indian national allegedly kidnapped by five Indians in Las Piñas over the weekend.

The victim, a 24-year-old male medical student, was rescued near the city hall along Alabang-Zapote Road in Barangay Pamplona Tres.

During the operation, police arrested five suspects, all Indian nationals aged 24 to 26.

The rescue operation was implemented by the Anti-Kidnapping Group in coordination with the Las Piñas police and Southern Police District.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. lauded the quick response of PNP operational units, adding that “effective police coordination remains critical when lives are at risk.”

2 South Korean fugitives nabbed

Two South Korean fugitives have been arrested in Makati.

Son Jongin, 65, is facing fraud charges in his home country and is an undocumented alien in the Philippines.

While serving the arrest warrant in Barangay Comembo, authorities encountered Song Ung Il, 85, who had been issued a deportation order in 2015 for improper documentation.

The South Korean government had informed the Bureau of Immigration (BI) that the Nonsan branch of the Daejeon District Court had issued an arrest warrant for Son in 2020.

The BI and Korean National Police Agency teamed up to apprehend Son.

Son and Song are detained at the BI warden’s facility pending resolution of their cases.

“Fugitives cannot expect to hide in the Philippines and evade the cases filed against them. We will find them, we will arrest them and we will enforce our immigration laws,” BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
