PNP welcomes 5% pay hike for cops

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has welcomed the planned five percent increase in the base pay of military and uniformed personnel starting next year, saying it would boost the morale of PNP personnel.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the salary adjustment recognizes the dedication of police personnel protecting communities.

“The increase in the salary of police officers is a fitting recognition of their selfless service to the Filipino people,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said the proposed allocation of approximately P700 million to fund the recruitment of 2,000 new patrolmen and patrolwomen would boost police visibility to deter crime.

The funding support will help address operational personnel gaps and improve police-to-population ratio.

The Department of Budget and Management has earmarked P73.7 billion for the subsistence requirements of military and uniformed personnel in 2027, with additional funding for salaries, personnel benefits, health care and equipment.

The PNP has been allocated a proposed budget of P242.5 billion for 2027.

Nartatez said the salary increase should encourage police officers to further improve their performance and uphold professionalism.
