Korean firm offers to help solve RP's waste problem

-

MANILA, Philippines - DP Pure Environment Inc., the local subsidiary of Daepoong Fertilizer Co., Ltd of the Daepoong Industries Korean conglomerate, is offering its technology to treat waste and turn it into organic fertilizer.

DP Pure Environment aims to begin operations before the end of 2010. CEO J.M. Lee said “every kind of waste produced, even glass with its hexagonal molecular structure, can be broken down into organic fertilizer.”

After exhaustive research and testing in Korea for the past 20 years, Lee opted to bring the technology to the Philippines. “The obvious choice for many people would have been China, due to its proximity and large population,” he admitted, “but I wanted to come to the Philippines because the investment climate and general atmosphere is quite appealing to the group.”

The process of converting trash into fertilizer has numerous benefits, as opposed to pre-existing methods of waste management. The largest advantage of DP Pure Environment’s approach is treat the trash, compress it and then convert it into fertilizer. Fifty percent of the actual waste matter is fermented into fertilizer while the remaining half is completely broken down during the process. This eliminates the need for waste water discharge, and the danger of contaminating the surrounding area.

Moreover, unlike in traditional land-fill trash disposal units, the unlimited supply of waste is considered an advantage. Using this technology, the more trash is produced and treated, the greater the output of fertilizer, thus increasing sellable yield.

On the effectiveness of the finished product, Lee said: “Our fertilizer has been extensively tested on farmland and staple crops such as rice and the results have been nothing but positive. Fertility of tested crops increased as much as three percent.” It is also chemical-free and safe to handle, unlike many existing fertilizers currently on the market.

DP Pure Environment Inc. is going through all the necessary processes in order to do business in the Philippines, taking every precaution that their documentation and accreditation is accurate and legal. “We’re going through everything with a fine-toothed comb because there are plans to put up multiple sites across the country,” said Lee. “We plan to be in the country for a very long time, and it’s only fitting to do things properly.”
