Los Baños Science Community marks 20th year

-
The Los Baños Science Community (LBSC) will celebrate its 20th year and also the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) this week.

With the theme "Agham at Teknolohiya: Daan sa Pag-unlad," the NSTS-LBSC will schowcase exhibits, symposium, farmers’ forum, and a study tour on Aug. 3-5. The celebration will be held at the International Rice Research Institute, Los Baños, Laguna.

LBSC was established in 1984. It started with only 20 members from private and public development institutions but now it has 22 member agencies. To continuously facilitate transfer and adoption of science and technology research outputs and services generated by its member agencies to clients and users through various projects, LBSC registered as the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI).

It has been strongly committed to effective collaboration and cooperation towards the creation of a model community by addressing priority needs of the Los Baños community and similar environs through creativity and innovation. Its vision is to build a prosperous, environmentally conscious, scientifically oriented, humane and united community living in harmony with nature.

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (PCARRD-DOST) serves as the LBSCFI secretariat. – Liza R. Gutierrez, S&T Media Service
