MANILA, Philippines — The infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz group and Globe Telecom Inc. are joining forces to provide affordable internet in key urban cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

Together, Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. and Globe will accelerate the availability of community broadband access in select barangays in Davao and Cebu through the Ayala-led telco’s KonekTayo WiFi service.

Through Aboitiz InfraCapital’s existing pole network located in these areas, Globe’s KonekTayo WiFi will be deployed to give customers fast and reliable internet access from their homes.

“We are pleased to be working with Globe on this innovative project that aims to make the internet accessible to underserved Filipinos in different parts of the country. This new partnership is consistent with our commitment to help uplift lives through better infrastructure, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic,” Aboitiz InfraCapital president and chief executive officer Cosette Canilao said.

KonekTayo WiFi is Globe’s fast and secure community WiFi service that aims to provide households with affordable internet.

Customers will simply need to connect to a KonekTayoWiFi hotspot, purchase a promo, and surf all day. KonekTayo WiFi package starts for as low as P15 for 1GB, valid for one day.

Globe said the partnership with Aboitiz InfraCapital is in line with the long-standing mission of KonekTayo WiFi to connect more communities and empower them with an internet service that is well within their means.

“Our focus is always to serve and empower Filipino families and communities, particularly those with limited resources,” Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said.

“KonekTayo WiFi promises the affordability, accessibility and ease of use that most low-income Filipino homes need. This partnership with AIC strongly complements our efforts to boost network capacity and coverage through infrastructure in a cost-efficient manner,” he said.

KonekTayo WiFi is present in select residential areas in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Cebu, Tacloban, and Iloilo, with more rollouts planned nationwide in 2021.

Globe has also partnered with Aboitiz InfraCapital for small cell deployments and common tower development to help boost its network capacity and coverage.
