MANILA, Philippines — Megaworld Corp., the Andrew Tan-led property developer, is bringing its Savoy hotel brand inside its 30-hectare township in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.

Savoy Hotel Mactan, which will have 18 floors and 547 guest rooms and suites, will target business travellers and family vacationers.

Megaworld has spent P1.7 billion to build the hotel which will be one of several hotels which the property developer plans to put up inside The Mactan Newtown.

The hotel will be Megaworld’s first hotel development inside The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, its 30-hectare township in Cebu.

Megaworld Hotels managing director Raymundo Melendres said the hotel is close to the airport in Cebu.

“Savoy Hotel Mactan is just 15 minutes away from the airport, which makes it a perfect choice for business travellers,” Melendres said.

The location, he said, would allow guests to experience the beach and the township at the same time.

The township itself offers restaurants, cafes, supermarket, spa and other retail shops within easy reach.

Amenities include superior and deluxe rooms, as well as deluxe premier and junior suites. It also has function and meeting rooms and a number of food and beverage (F&B) outlets.

Other standard amenities in the hotel include a swimming pool, a fitness center and a business center.

Savoy Hotel general manager Grace Bartolome said the hotel hopes to be on the radar of smart travellers who appreciate the hospitality of Filipino hoteliers.

Megaworld said Savoy Hotel Mactan’s interiors are designed by world-renowned Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the same firm that designed Marina Bay Sands and Fullerton Hotel in Singapore, as well as Shangri-La Dubai and St. Regis Abu Dhabi in UAE.

The Mactan hotel is the third hotel under the Savoy Hotel brand, a homegrown hotel chain established by Megaworld. Other Savoy Hotels have already opened in Boracay Newcoast and in Newport City, Pasay City.

Savoy is one of Megaworld’s homegrown hotel brands. So far, the company has already opened four other homegrown brands aside from Savoy.

These are Richmonde Hotel, Belmont Hotel Twin Lakes Hotel and Hotel Lucky Chinatown, with around 3,200 hotel rooms.

In the next five years, the company plans to open new homegrown hotel brands in Parañaque, Bacolod, Iloilo, Boracay and Laguna.

Just last month, Megaworld also opened the P2.1 billion Belmont Hotel Boracay inside Boracay Newcoast, a 150-hectare tourism township being developed by its subsidiary, Global-Estate Resorts Inc.

Megaworld’s hotel business is one of the company’s fast growing segments. Its other business segments include residential condominiums, malls and townships.

During the first quarter this year, Megaworld’s hotel business became the fastest-growing segment of the quarter, soaring 56 percent to P574 million compared to last year’s P368 million.
