WATCH: RCBC says email transactions on Bangladesh fund transfer not marked urgent
MANILA, Philippines— Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation’s legal counsel Maricel “Macel” Fernandez-Estavillo on Tuesday reported that the email transactions received by the bank pertaining to the transfer of funds stolen from the Bangladesh Central Bank were not marked urgent.
Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chair Sen. Teofisto “TG” Guingona III questioned Estavillo’s statement after checking the Bangladesh’s Central Bank’s emails saying the messages say it is “top.”
The legal counsel, however, explained that the email’s urgency was only indicated in the body of the message and not in the heading or subject line making it unmarked as “urgent.”
Estavillo noted that emails are read by the banking staff in sequential order.
