Why celebrities want to be stronger

WELL-BEING - Mylene Mendoza-Dayrit - The Philippine Star

Julianne Hough is the December cover of Shape magazine where she shares her workout regimen. Dancing since she was nine years old, this actress, singer, and Dancing With The Stars judge loves working out with her trainer and friend Astrid Swan McGuire.

She proves that hot is strong, and strong is hot. Her workouts involve full-body moves and high-intensity intervals. Picture this one: Starting in a plank position, Julianne, with five-pound dumbbells in both hands, pushes her body up with one hand anchored to the ground while the other executes a kick-back. It’s truly inspiring to see her tight and sleek physique as she strongly and gracefully executes her plie windmill, drawbridge, bungee raise, hips bridge march, and star plank and row. Sounds foreign to you? Then you must try exercising in 2015.

Did you say you’re too busy? Well, we all are, but busier than us are the celebrities who juggle multiple roles and multiple projects like Julianne. Now, let’s continue to look into the exercise motivation of our local celebrities who are empowered by how regular workouts keep them stronger.

Matteo Guidicelli:  I always believe in eating in moderation. You can eat anything but always in moderation. And of course, your diet changes with your goals. Right now, I am training for a triathlon so I have to take a lot of carbs. I love the idea of being able to work out wherever my job takes me. My friends call me up and we work out together.

Diego Loyzaga: I started lifting weights last year and people have started noticing a big improvement in my physique so that motivates me. I like a gym that has a complete set of equipment and friendly staff. I actually enjoy working out in a friendly environment. I try to go at least three times a week. People should try going to the gym, you really become stronger.

Kathryn Bernardo: When you work out to get your desired body, you need discipline and commitment. I like it when trainers help you stay committed and disciplined to meet your goals. It is convenient when your gym is everywhere, especially for us celebrities since our job takes us on location all over the country, even the world. It is good to know that you will find the same equipment and the same service. But the one I frequent is just 20 minutes away from home. There are many good personal trainers in that gym.

Sam Milby: I have been with my gym for nine years now! They are like my family and they have always been there to help me stay in shape, especially for my work and, in the long run, for me. They provide everything that you will ever need for any athlete or for anybody that just wants to stay in shape and be healthy. I have a Muay Thai trainer and another personal trainer, both in the same gym. When my schedule permits, I go at least twice a week.

Jace Flores: I get inspired to see everyone in my gym bust their butts to achieve a transformation, literally getting stronger. I have been working out for 10 years now, but it is in my present gym where I got real lasting results. I also like it that the people in the gym sincerely want to help change lives. I think I enjoy it so much; thus, I work out five times a week!

Will De Vaughn: By working out, I’ve not only changed my body but also my mind. I am more disciplined, and stronger. When you combine a strong mind and a strong body, amazing things happen. I don’t think I can have an excuse not to work out, considering that my gym opens at 6 a.m. and it closes at 12 midnight on weekdays. They can accommodate your lifestyle basically. I remember when I was a kid, I’d go to the playground. Now, in my gym, they have built an adult playground so it’s kinda like bringing yourself back into your childhood. We were not supposed to grow up. We’re not supposed to leave the playground, so athletics has that now.

Jessy Mendiola: I become motivated to work out every day thinking I will get stronger. Every time I go to the gym, I take pictures and post it on social media as my own small way of creating awareness and inspiring people to stay fit and get healthy. I like the convenience of working out even for just a 30-minute cardio wherever my job takes me. I’ve been with my gym a long time because they are people-friendly. Whenever I don’t have work, I go to my gym twice a day! So yeah, I’m pretty much addicted to the gym because I like eating a lot. I just want to keep it balanced.

Kim Chiu: Working out is already part of my lifestyle since training with my personal trainer in my gym for several years now. I enjoy their facilities, the complete equipment,  and my personal trainer. He always pushes me to my limit. I even question myself if I can indeed do it. But he always reminds me of my weight gain goal. People have noticed that I have been gaining weight and that I now have curves, so I’m very thankful for that. My trainer moved to a different branch so I transferred also. I go after lunch when the gym is not crowded. There are only a few members working out and they are mostly Chinese. So I speak to them in Chinese, adds to the fun.
