BORACAY, Philippines – The Kapatid Network treated foreign and local visitors to a different Halloween experience with TV5’s The Walking Dead: Walker Wars Boracay Invasion last Oct. 31.

Walker Wars was a whole day of fun activities and challenges where tourists played and competed with zombies (also known as “walkers”).

The day started with the arrival of the zombies walking on the crystal white, powder-like sand of Boracay and gathering at the beachfront of The District Hotel.

Participants enjoyed the Walker Wars on stage challenges such as Beach Blend, Hula Help and Walker Wits and the beach challenges that included Escape Your Fate, Run For Your Life, Crawl for Survival, Rope of Death and Ring of War. In the Walker Wars, the objective was for participants to defeat the walkers in each obstacle and earn the flag. All participants needed to collect five different flags in order to be qualified for the raffle. TV5 sportscaster Rizza Diaz hosted the event.

Lucky survivors received T-shirts, key chains, a GoPro Hero Camera, an Apple Watch and a JBL Speaker. The Walker Wars on-ground sponsors were M Lhuiller and Petron.

In an interview during the event, TV5’s Network and Digital head Lloyd Manaloto shared how TV5’s primetime block earned high ratings: “The first language is still Tagalog or Filipino and English is secondary, so what that means is they (viewers) really understand it better if it’s in Tagalog. It’s actually interesting for us; we’re getting very good ratings for The Walking Dead, Flash and Arrow. Our primetime ratings have actually doubled.”

“We get the best voice talents and if there are sentences or phrases that we feel are better delivered in English ‘di na namin pinipilit na i-tagalize, we retain the English version. We’re targeting a different audience, those who we are catering to are the ones who may have heard of these US shows but may not have seen them because they don’t have cable or they don’t have fast Internet,” added Rissa Guilas, TV5 Entertainment Marketing head.

The Walking Dead features a world, wherein a deadly virus turns people into zombies. The series tells the stories of Rick Grimes played by Andrew Lincoln and his wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) with son Carl (Chandler Riggs); Shane (Jon Bernthal), Carol (Melissa McBride); Daryl (Norman Reedus); and Glenn (Steven Yeun).

The Walking Dead airs Thursday nights at 7.
