MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano responded to netizens who were alleging that the chosen cast of the upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye “Bagani” is not Filipino enough.

In a recent tweet by Liza, she defended her co-stars in the teleserye.

“And who says were not Pinoy? My father is full Filipino. I was raised by two Filipinos since the age of 4. I loooove sinigang I think that’s as pinoy as pinoy can get,” “Bagani’s” Ganda wrote in a post on her Twitter account.

The post has been deleted as of press time.

Since ABS-CBN released the trailer of “Bagani,” netizens have mixed reactions on the teleserye. Some were excited because the trailer was action-packed and with a good story line dating back to the country’s pre-colonial period. Some, however, were not satisfied because the main characters allegedly do not look like pre-colonial Pinoys.

Liza’s mother is American while Enrique Gil, her LizQuen love team partner and love interest in the teleserye, hails from German and Spanish ancestry. Matteo Guidicelli is also in the show and his father is Italian.

The teleserye drew flak coincidentally at around the same time as the trending of Marvel’s "Black Panther," which pays homage to African culture.
