Are Derrick, Alden game for a BL project?

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

In an Instagram live interview, Derrick Monasterio was asked if he’s not jealous of Alden Richards’ popularity. The GMA hunk, who started in showbiz the same time as Alden, answered in the negative.

“I love Alden. Brother ko ‘yun ever since ‘The Road’ days. Kasama ko si Alden sa L.A. nang mag-premiere ang ‘The Road,’ hindi pa [ganoon kasikat si] Alden noon, pero nakita ko ang totoong Alden. Hanggang ngayon, gano’n pa rin. Kaya ko siya mahal na mahal and I respect him so much and I love him, he never changed. Kahit kanino niyo itanong, hindi siya nagbago. Mahirap ‘yun kasi ako, minsan parang nai-irritate, pero siya, very generous, nakiki-bonding sa lahat.”

We don’t know if Alden is aware of what Derrick said about their friendship but if Alden says he loves Derrick as well, that speaks well of the kind of bond they have. That platonic love exists between them and they are not ashamed to admit it speaks volumes.

No matter how hugely popular Alden has become, he remains level-headed, kind, and a gentleman. He hasn’t changed a bit since he started and we are happy that he is reaping the fruit of his labor.

We admire Derrick’s courage to admit that he loves Alden. He doesn’t care if his words might be misconstrued. In this day and age, we should not be putting labels when two young men say they are good friends and love each other dearly. There is nothing wrong with such and we should not also put malice into it. Platonic love shared by men is not often verbalized. We all know when they have it. We can feel it and detect it.

We cannot help but wonder: will Derrick and Alden agree to star in a Boy’s Love project? A writer-friend says he feels Derrick might be game to do a BL project but is afraid that Alden will probably say no. We hastened to add that if the project has a good script and will be handled by a good director then Alden might say yes but we are afraid GMA Artist Center might not agree to it.

A BL movie the likes of “Hello Stranger” might appeal to Alden and Derrick. No one doubted the masculinity of Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez when they did the very popular series “My Husband’s Lover.” In fact, it boosted their popularity and stock as competent actors.

Alden should take it as a challenge if ever he gets offered to do a BL series with Derrick. We believe he will be brave enough to do one to challenge himself. Doing so is finding another genre to showcase his acting talent. A BL series can succeed even without sexy or graphic scenes involved.

We were surprised when Alden agreed to endorse a liquor brand when his packaging is wholesome. Doing a BL is just like endorsing an intoxicating drink.

If ever Alden and Derrick will agree to star in a BL series, for sure members of the pink community will go all out to support it since the fairies love them both.

Upstream.ph goes full speed as they launch another offering for the Filipino audience to enjoy. On August 22, you can stream the exciting “Pacquiao vs Ugas” fight with friends and family, safely in the comfort of your homes for P400. Upstream understands the need of the Filipino nation to watch and support this thrilling bout, as we cheer on the People’s champion to victory.

The boxing world was stunned after hearing the withdrawal of Errol Spence, Jr. to his highly anticipated match with Pacquiao due to a retinal tear. But perhaps there was no one more surprised than Yordenis Ugas, as he suddenly found himself on a head to head collision with one of the best fighters to ever step into the ring. After the WBA declared Pacquiao’s welterweight title vacant due to inactivity, the belt was awarded to Ugas. Pacquiao questioned the move, claiming “The only way to win a championship is inside the ring.”

Ugas has a chance to prove that the title is rightfully his by defeating the man that held it before him. The Cuban slugger is not to be taken lightly. He has won 26 matches and has only lost four, having knocked out 12 of his opponents. Ugas is currently riding high on a three-fight winning streak, with his eyes set on making a victory against Pacquaio the defining win of his career.

Don’t miss this epic fight on Sunday, 9 a.m. in high definition thru Upstream. Visit gmovies.ph or download the app thru App Store or Google Play to book tickets and stream it on upstream.ph.
