Fire victims receive aid from Senator Go
CEBU, Philippines — Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go extended financial and relief assistance to 539 families affected by separate fire incidents in Cebu City and Mandaue City.
Go distributed the assistance to 104 families in Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City and 127 families in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
The beneficiaries received personal financial assistance, food packs, gallons of drinking water, vitamins, and balls.
In Cebu City, Go also led the distribution of housing assistance and relief goods to 308 fire victims from different barangays during an activity at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay Sawang Calero.
Aside from housing assistance, the beneficiaries received food packs, lunch, vitamins, and balls.
Known as “Mr. Malasakit” for his advocacy of helping Filipinos in need, Go said he used his own salary to provide personal assistance, emphasizing that material possessions could be replaced but human lives could not.
“Importante buhi tang tanan,” Go told the fire victims in Mambaling, urging them to help one another as they recover from the tragedy.
He assured the beneficiaries that his office remained open to those who needed assistance, adding that he would continue helping them to the best of his ability.
Go also thanked Cebu City residents for giving him another opportunity to serve in the Senate, pledging to continue working for the welfare of Filipinos, particularly Cebuanos.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth, Go encouraged young people to engage in sports and stay away from illegal drugs and other vices.
He underscored the importance of sports in keeping the youth healthy and productive, noting that young people are the future of the country.
He also highlighted the Free Higher Education Law, which he said provides more opportunities for students to pursue college education.
Go reiterated his commitment to public service, saying that serving the people is also a way of serving God.
The senator was joined by Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, Malasakit at Bayanihan Partylist Rep. Girlie Veloso, and actor Philip Salvador. — /MRM (FREEMAN)
