MANILA, Philippines -- Jamie Malonzo exploded for a career-high 32 points, as Barangay Ginebra knocked the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters down to their third straight loss, 113-107, in the PBA Philippine Cup Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Malonzo scored 15 points just in the first quarter, which completely set the tone for the Gin Kings’ rousing debut in the PBA Philippine Cup. He also had a total of eight rebounds, four blocks, two steals and three assists.

The Elasto Painters played catch-up the whole game, with Ginebra leading by as much as 15 points, 90-75, in the third quarter.

The Gin Kings regained the 15-point lead in the fourth quarter, 107-92, with 3:26 to go.

Rain or Shine then tried to storm back.

With Ginebra holding a 111-99 lead with a layup by surprise starter Ralph Cu, the Elasto Painters hit back-to-back 3-pointers courtesy of Gian Mamuyac and Andrei Caracut.

A layup by Adrian Nocum cut the lead to four, 107-111, with 16 ticks to go.

A pair of free throws by Mav Ahanmisi iced the game with 12 seconds remaining.

On the other end, Caracut was called for an offensive foul, sealing Ginebra’s win.

Ahanmisi and Standhardinger had 18 points apiece for the Gin Kings.
Japeth Aguilar added 17 markers off the bench.

Anton Asistio paced the Elasto Painters with 21 points and four rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

Santi Santillan, Mamuyac and Caracut all had 16 markers each.

Rain or Shine dropped to 0-3 in the conference and will try notch its win in conference next Friday against San Miguel.

Ginebra, for its part, will try to build a winning streak against Phoenix on Sunday.

Both games will be at the Big Dome.
