Gilas buckles down for FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers campaign

MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas has started its preparations for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Photos uploaded by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Thursday showed the team training at the Inspire Sports Academy Philippines.

Present during the training are Kai Sotto, Dwight Ramos, Chris Newsome, Kevin Quiambao, Jamie Malonzo, Carl Tamayo, AJ Edu, Justin Brownlee, Scottie Thompson and Calvin Oftana.

Those who are part of the 12-man pool that were not in attendance were newly crowned PBA Commissioner’s Cup champions June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez.

Gilas veteran Japeth Aguilar also participated.

“The journey starts now for Gilas Pilipinas. Training continues in preparation for their two important matches at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers 1st Window,” the SBP said in the Facebook post.

Gilas will also have a public send-off practice on Monday. 

It will be from 6 p.m. at the Philsports Arena in pasig. 

The team will kick off its campaign against Hong Kong on February 22. It will face Chinese Taipei on February 25.
