MANILA, Philippines — Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana assured yesterday that enough security measures for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games are being put in place to thwart any attempt to disrupt the international event.

He told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo that it is very important for the military to help or augment the police force.

“Mas mabuti na ‘yung magsobra tayo ng security kesa magkulang. So nag-ambag na yung Armed Forces ng security sa loob, so its very important ‘yung contribution ng AFP sa security ng SEA Games,” he said.

Though unlikely, Lorenzana said the possibility of terror attacks is also being considered in the precautionary measures being implemented.

“Although we do not see the likelihood, pero mabuti na ang nakahanda di ba,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, all provincial and city police directors intensified all their operations against wanted persons, illegal drugs personalities and threat groups to ascertain that the whole of Central Luzon is peaceful and orderly as part of the security preparation of the police for the SEA Games from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
