MANILA, Philippines — Metropac-San Beda stepped up in the fourth quarter, beating Wangs Basketball, 94-70, to notch its second straight win in the PBA D-League yesterday.

Calvin Oftana came off the bench to fire a team-high 17 points, going 7-for-9 from the floor, while also collaring seven rebounds as the Movers followed up on their opening game win over the Perpetual Help Altas in the Foundation Group.

“The players are stepping up. The guys coming off the bench are really trying to step up and prove themselves capable of playing in the D-League and hopefully, be ready for the NCAA,” said Movers coach Boyet Fernandez as he assessed their first two wins.

Evan Nelle also came off the bench to contribute 11 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals, AC Soberano produced 11 points before going down with a strained hamstring while James Kwekuteye had 10 points for Metropac-San Beda.

Axel Iñigo tallied a game-high 21 points, Gelo Vito had 15 while Arvin Tolentino chipped in 11 for the Couriers who dropped to 1-1 after an opening game win over debuting The Masterpiece Clothing-Trinity University of Asia.

In the first match, Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College chalked up its first win via a 79-57 victory over McDavid.

Ervin Mendoza led with 25 points, Clark Derige scored 16 while Allan Martin had 11 as the Generals made up for a first game loss to the University of Santo Tomas Tigers for a 1-1 slate in the Aspirants’ Group.

McDavid drew 16 points from Rev Diputado and nine from Michole Sorela but it wasn’t enough as they slipped a second time after dropping their opening game against the AMA Titans.
