'Just the beginning' for ONE Championship dominance — CEO
MANILA, Philippines — Through its seven-year existence, ONE Championship has continuously grown in every aspect.
From skyrocketing ratings to an increasing fan base, ONE is now at par with, if not better than, some of the world's biggest Mixed Martial Arts organizations but ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong says this is only the beginning.
ONE Championship recently listed three of the biggest names in MMA, adding to an already superstar-packed roster of athletes.
Former UFC athletes Demetrius Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt all inked deals with the Singapore-based organization last year and are all set to make their debut this year. Acccording to Sityodtong, more fighters will be heading to ONE soon.
"You can expect some big news coming up. I think DJ, Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt is just the very beginning," he said during the ONE Championship: Hero's Ascent press conference in Manila.
"You will be shocked at the number of names... current world champions that don't want to be part of their organization anymore and have already reached out to us," he said.
'Built by, led by, and for martial artists'
Sityodtong said that people recognize the difference between ONE and other organizations that send martial artists their way.
"ONE Championship is built by martial artists, led by a martial artist for martial artists... I'm the only CEO who knows what every single fighter is going through" He said. Sityodtong is a former Muay Thai fighter and still trains reguarly for fitness.
ONE Championship is set to hold their first fight night in Manila for the year on Friday, January 25, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
